Lawyers learn to lead change

traditional learning won’t work here …

Time really is money for this law firm and its Partners. So when they needed to significantly develop their Partners’ ability to lead people through change, time out of ‘business as usual’ was incredibly limited.

Sam had quite a challenge on her hands. She discovered that the leaders needed persuading of the value of doing things differently, and convincing it was down to them to make the biggest change. Having been predominantly individual contributors, this was not going to be instinctive for many of them, and they would benefit most from significant practical development.

Sam needed to be creative here, building a programme of activities that would:

  • engage the audience in advance of any actual learning

  • be thought provoking and create a sense of urgency

  • challenge thinking and promote self reflection ahead of the learning

  • accelerate the ‘live’ learning process

  • ensure new skills be put into practice quickly

The learners were respectfully engaged in the process
upfront, and then drip fed thought provoking insights at pace to highlight the necessary aspects requiring deliberate consideration ahead of each short, fast
paced face to face or virtual workshop. This meant learners hit the ground running in just two hours, working only on practical application in the context of the business, to be applied immediately in the workplace on a change taking place right now.

The flow and pace of these bespoke workshops followed the steps of an appropriate change model, intentionally providing the right foundation and structure for the learners to apply to the actual current organisational change - so they could skilfully lead their people through the change.
